Let’s welcome Alex – co-manager of LiveUp social media!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been running the social media for LiveUp and am thrilled to welcome Alex to the social media party! When she heard about LiveUp, she was eager to come aboard. Here’s her story:

Hi LiveUp-ers! My name is Alex and I just started volunteering with LiveUp Programs.  I will be co-managing social media with my awesome pal Nadia, focusing primarily on Facebook and the blog. I am so excited to be a part of this amazing organization and am in awe of the great job Nadia has done so far!  I wanted to volunteer with LiveUp because of my amazing experiences with the Down syndrome community. Every April,  my high school in North Carolina hosted the city competition for the Special Olympics and the students took 2 days off of school to be buddies and staff the events and programming. Although you were only required to be a buddy as a freshman (and could move to staffing activities or handing out medals as a sophomore), I loved my first year buddies so much that I remained a buddy for all four years. Being a buddy was always one of my favorite things because you got to see sports and competition in a new way. I played volleyball competitively throughout high school and college, so I thought I knew a thing or two about the joy of competing. But after watching my kids participate in races and jumps, I knew that I had only begun to scratch the surface of joy and left with a deeper respect for Down syndrome kids and all that they are capable of doing. I look forward to continuing to spread the word about LiveUp and all the amazing programming it puts on for the Down syndrome community.
